A Quick History or, skip to the content

Ever since the digital camera made its debut, I have been taking pictures constantly. Even before, when film was the media for amateur photographers, I always had my (Dad’s) 35mm in hand. Film proved to be quite expensive, and I don’t think my father particularly liked paying for the many rolls to be developed, but he put up with it and let me develop my hobby. Our first digital camera was a Sony Mavica, and yes, it used floppy disks to store images. Naturally, this made the size of the camera quite large, but hey, it was new technology back then. I remember the first time I really got to use the (then) amazing new type of camera was when we were having our house remodeled, probably back in 2000. I was appointed “Official Photographer” for the project. Now, somewhere near seven years later, I have my own digital camera and have retained my title of “Official Family Photographer.”

In the past seven years, I have had many outlets to develop my love of taking pictures. In 2003, my family and I traveled to Australia for Christmas. Yes, it was weird celebrating Christmas when it was 85 degrees outside. Anyway, Australia had some beautiful scenery. Although we stayed for over a week, I have now come to a sad realization that I only took about 50 pictures during our stay. I will post a few. Living in Japan for two years also helped to develop my talent. When you live in a small town (like I do), there is not much to take pictures of after a while. However, the city is a constantly changing place with new faces, buildings, and things every day. The next year, in 2004, my family took a vacation to Hawaii (we had originally planned to go to Thailand and the date was for the day of the Tsunami, but I’ll get into that later), again, during Christmastime. By then, I was somewhat accustomed to a hot day of gift giving. During our stay in Maui, I snapped nearly six hundred pictures of things from scenery to a stray cat.

Upon returning to the states in 2004 (late December), I quickly found new things to capture. Last year (2005 Christmas) I got my very first digital camera. This one was finally mine. It is a Sony DSC-P200. I know, not the most advanced of digital cameras, but it’s a start. I eventually hope to own a Nikon Digital SLR, but that’s sometime in the future. This past summer, my family and I traveled to Alaska and I returned with nearly 1000 photos. I frequently bring my camera with me when I go places even as close as school because I never know when something interesting might happen.

Now that I have given you a complete history of my photographic life, I currently have three albums posted.
